新东方网站上查到的信息是1.8万个，1万个核心词汇。所以应该就是1-2万之间。

In the past, linguists and researchers didn’t have the tools to gauge how many words the average person knows. But, thanks to Twitter, Facebook, and a nation of online quiz-takers, we might finally have an answer. According to a new study from Ghent University in Belgium, the average native English-speaking American will know around 42,000 words by the time they are 20 years old. By 60, they will know around 48,000 words.

The study, published in Frontiers in Psychology, uses data from a viral quiz taken by almost one million people across platforms. According to a release from the sponsoring university, the amount of participants and collected data makes this the largest study of its kind ever attempted.

The study, published this week in Frontiers in Psychology, asked more than 220,000 people to review a list of 100 words—some real and some made up—to decide which were actual entries in the dictionary. High scorers—those in the top 5%—knew an average of 52,000 lemmas, whereas low scorers—those in the bottom 5%—knew an average of 27,000. 【蛋蛋结论】一般美国人的词汇量在2万-5万之间，所以达到2万是个门槛吧。基本考个GRE考试，就过了这个门槛，当然这只限于阅读词汇量（看到知道意思）。

3、USA书写时需要大写吗？

是的，书写时必须大写。因为the USA表示美国，又因为美国全名是美利坚合众国，用英文书写是the united states of America，为了简化书写，就选取了除人of以外几个单词的第一个字母，在最前边还要加上定冠词the，同时单个字母要大写，也就是the USA，表示美国

4、美国的英文单词有多少个？

我在网上搜有人说一个普通美国大学生懂的单词大概有3W个，我现在英语6级，懂6000左右的单词，算了一下要是想学到普通美国人的程度那就还有2.5W个单词要背.我这人很懒,要是按照艾宾浩斯记忆法每天只背3个单词,那么5天之后每天要复习+背诵的单词就达到20个,坚持天天背诵的话2.5W÷3=8333天除以365等于22年!!
